1% of the Union Budget should be allocated to the MEA, according to a parliamentary committee

According to a parliamentary panel report released on Tuesday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) should enhance staff in its embassies overseas and establish missions in all UN member nations to reflect India’s growing global stakes and the fundamental changes in the foreign policy sphere.

The committee on external affairs also advised allocating at least one percent of the government’s entire annual budget to the ministry in light of its daunting mandate to make India a world power.

According to the panel, the MEA remains one of the least financed central ministries, with its revised budget hovering around 0.4% of the government’s total financial allocation for 2020-21.

On Tuesday, the committee’s report, chaired by PP Chaudhary, was tabled in Lok Sabha.
