50% of Employees Of These Companies Can WFH For 1 Year. New Rules Here

Work From Home Latest News Today: To provide flexibility and attract top talent, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has inserted a new Rule 43A (Work from Home or WFH), wherein 50 per cent of the workforce will be placed in Special Economic Zones (SEZs). Who Will Be Allowed to Work From Home?

As per the new rule book, employees of IT and ITeS SEZ units, those who are temporarily disabled, those who are travelling and those working offsite will be allowed to work from home.

A notification issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said, “A unit operating in an SEZ may allow its employees, including contractual employees, to work from home or any place outside the SEZ. This proposal for working from home will cover a maximum of 50 per cent of the total employees including contractual employees of the unit”.

How Long Employees Can Work From Home?

According to the reports, employees can work from home for 1 year and can be more than that at a time. However, SEZ unites will be asked to maintain proper attendance records for the regulator.

The Times of India quoted a consultant from an IT company as saying, “The rules do not cover a situation where all employees may be required to work from home, due to a Covid outbreak, at least as proposed the SEZ law should factor this.”
