A former minister has been arrested for offering bribes to officials by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau

Former state cabinet minister Sunder Sham Arora was arrested on Sunday for offering a bribe of Rs 50 lakh to an assistant inspector general (AIG) of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB). A total of Rs 50 lakh was also recovered from him by the organization.

A formal complaint has been filed against the former minister under section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act based on a statement made by Manmohan Kumar, AIG, VB, Flying Squad, Punjab. Further, he informed that AIG Manmohan Kumar had complained that Sunder Sham Arora had met him on October 14 and had offered him Rs 1 crore. It was done to gain favor in an investigation regarding the former minister’s vigilance.

Furthermore, the VB chief stated that the former minister offered to pay Rs 50 lakh the following day (October 15) and the balance later. In his report, the AIG informed the chief director, who ordered an investigation into the bribery allegations. A further investigation is currently being conducted in this case.
