A separate exam for IRMS will be conducted by UPSC

The Union Public Service Commission will hold a separate exam for officers to join the Indian Railways’ newly created Indian Railway Management Service.

A statement from the Ministry of Railways said Friday that 150 new IRMS recruits will be recruited from the UPSC’s Indian Railway Management Service Examination in 2023.

There’s a preliminary screening exam, a written exam and an interview for the IRMSE. To screen suitable candidates for the second stage, like the IRMS (main) written exam, all eligible candidates will have to take the civil services (preliminary) examination, and a fair number of candidates will be screened for the IRMS (main) examination, it said.

There are four optional subjects to choose from Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Commerce and Accountancy.

Syllabi for qualifying papers and optional subjects will be the same as for Civil Services Examination (CSE).
