An ex-BEL chairman is among 12 people arrested by the CBI for corruption

A CBI FIR was filed Friday against 12 people, including the former chairman and managing director of Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, for abusing their position and awarding contracts worth crores for Indian Air Force IACCS projects. A prevention of corruption act, cheating and criminal conspiracy charge has been filed against them all.

The agency filed an FIR under relevant sections of the IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act based on a complaint filed by Amit Kumar Wanger, inspector with the CBI’s anti-corruption branch. Amit Wanger notified BEL on December 7 that he was accusing BEL officers, vendors, and unknown people of criminal conspiracy, cheating, and abusing his official position when awarding contracts for the Indian Air Force IACCS system.

According to Wanger, Sunil Kumar Sharma was the then GM and then CMD of NCS (network centering system) at BEL, Ghaziabad; R K Handa was the GM of NCS, BEL; S S Chaudhary was the senior DGM in the Marketing department; Gurjit Singh was the senior DGM in the CS department; B P Pahuja was the AGM in the Infrastructure department and is now the GM in the Engineering department; Manish Goyal was the manager (infra) and is now the DGM in the infrastructure department.
