Anurag Thakur says, “Is the situation in J&K tranquil? Does Rahul wish to cause unrest?”

Anurag Thakur, a Union minister, questioned Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday about the Congress’ plans to raise the tricolour in the Kashmir Valley and emphasised that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has substantially improved under the Modi administration.

The minister told reporters that an estimated 1,6 million visitors visited Jammu and Kashmir in a single year, which is a record in and of itself.

“Now tourists may travel to every nook and cranny of Jammu & Kashmir. This demonstrates that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has improved. There are no cases of stone throwing. Does Rahul Gandhi wish to disturb the ambiance there?” “Today, anyone can raise the tricolour in any region of Jammu and Kashmir, as the Narendra Modi administration has repealed Article 370 and Article 35A,” he continued. Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, which began in Kanyakumari in September and will conclude in Kashmir next month, began in September.

Thakur reminded him of the 1992 Ekta Yatra organised by then-BJP president Murli Manohar Joshi and Narendra Modi, who raised the tricolour at Lal Chowk in Srinagar.

“There was much opposition to the yatra at the time. There were instances of terrorist strikes and gunfire. This was due to the presence of a Congress government, he explained.

In addition, the BJP leader recalled his 2011 Tiranga Yatra as head of the Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha.

Thakur stated, “The then opposition leaders in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, and I were imprisoned because the Congress-National Conference administration opposed the Tiranga Yatra.”

“Back then, when Article 370 and 35A were still in effect, things were challenging,” he added, adding that the situation in the Kashmir Valley had substantially improved during the Modi administration.
