Arvind Kejriwal is to be on a two-day Gujarat visit from Sunday; to hold a town hall meet on ‘free electricity’

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal will be on a two-day visit to Gujarat from Sunday, during which he will hold a town hall meeting on “free electricity” and administer the oath to the newly appointed office-bearers of the party. A party leader in Ahmedabad said.
He said on Saturday that during his two-day stay in Ahmedabad, the Delhi Chief Minister would hold meetings with senior AAP leaders and interact with party members.
The Kejriwal-led party is preparing to contest elections to the 182-member assembly in BJP-ruled Gujarat to be held by the end of this year.
Kejriwal will reach Ahmedabad airport at 3 pm. on Sunday. He will administer the oath to 7,500 newly appointed office bearers in a ceremony at 4 pm. They will take a pledge to work wholeheartedly for the party and encourage the workers for the upcoming assembly elections,” AAP’s national joint secretary Isudan Gadhvi told reporters in Ahmedabad.
He said the appointment of these office-bearers was made after the dissolution of the AAP’s state organization structure early last month.
“For those suffering from inflation, our party has started a free electricity campaign. If the people of Delhi and Punjab can get free electricity, then why can’t the people of Gujarat?” He asked.
He said on Monday, nearly two weeks after the party launched a state-wide agitation demanding free electricity for domestic consumers from the BJP government, Mr Kejriwal will organize a town hall on “free electricity”.
Gadhvi said the party’s “guarantee card” or election manifesto for the Gujarat assembly elections to be held in December will also be discussed.
The AAP functionary accused the ruling party of misleading the people by saying that the citizens of Gujarat do not need free electricity, as he said BJP state president C.R. Patil’s statement.
“I want to appeal to those leaders who do not need free electricity, put a board outside their house so that more and more poor people can get free electricity,” he said.
AAP leaders in Gujarat believe that the party’s “free electricity” campaign will play an important role in the assembly polls as they said lakhs of people across the state have supported it.
Party leaders and workers organized padayatra, torches and cycle yatras in different parts of the state and sought support from the people for the campaign. The party has promised free electricity to the people if voted to power.
