At the age of 89, the former president’s wife’s spouse, Devisingh Shekhawat, passes away.

Devisingh Shekhawat, the husband of former President Pratibha Patil, passed suddenly in a hospital in Pune. He was 89.

Shekhawat was hospitalised to KEM hospital a few days ago, according to a family source quoted by PTI. According to a statement released by KEM hospital, his “health deteriorated as a result of kidney difficulties, and he passed away at 9.30 a.m. on February 24.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to Pratibha Patil and her family and remarked that Shekhawat left his mark on society via his various community service endeavours.

“On the demise of Dr. Devisingh Shekhawat Ji, my thoughts are with our former President, Smt. Pratibha Patil Ji, and her family. He left his impact on society through his numerous acts of community service. Oh Shanti,” tweeted President Modi.

He is survived by his wife, Pratibha Patil, and two children, a boy and a daughter. He was a prominent agriculturalist and Congress party member.

Sharad Pawar, leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), lamented Shekhawat’s passing.

“Deeply saddened by the passing of senior Congress leader and renowned farmer Shri Devisingh Ransingh Shekhawat ji. Pawar tweeted, “The veteran leader served as the first mayor of Amaravati and was a great support system for Smt Pratibha tai as the First Lady of India.

Former President Ram Nath Kovind expressed astonishment at Shekhawat’s passing and conveyed his condolences to Smt. Pratibha Singh Patil ji and her family during their time of sorrow.
