Indra Mani Pandey, India’s permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva, underlined essential ideas advocated by Mahatma Gandhi, such as ‘Satyagraha’ and ‘Ahimsa’ in a statement before the Human Rights Council on Friday.
Pandey made the statements before the council while making a joint statement on the ‘Resonance of Mahatma Gandhi’s Ideas and Values in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ on behalf of India and 89 other countries.
According to an Indian mission statement, Pandey emphasised that there is tremendous resonance in the universal principles contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the beliefs and values championed by Mahatma Gandhi, the global icon of nonviolence.
The declaration is open for co-sponsorship by additional governments until the end of the council’s 52nd session, according to a release, emphasising Gandhi’s promotion of political, social, and economic inclusion in the Sustainable Development Goals. Pandey emphasised Mahatma Gandhi’s five key concepts of Ahimsa, Satyagraha, Sarvodaya, Swaraj, and Trusteeship, noting that these are also core elements of the UN Charter.
