Auditor dies by suicide, 4 private moneylenders got arrested

The Pune City Police arrested four private moneylenders for abetment to suicide by hanging after a 52-year-old auditor working for the state co-operative department was allegedly harassed over non-payment of loans.

According to officials of Farsakhana police station, Ganesh Shankar Shinde (52) was found dead on Monday morning at around 7.30 am at his home in Tuesday Peth. The initial investigation pointed to suicide. After this, Shinde’s wife lodged an FIR at the Farsakhana police station late on Monday night.

We have found a suicide note which is believed to have been written by the deceased. The note points to some private moneylenders who harassed Shinde for borrowing the money. Based on the suicide note and the FIR lodged by his wife, we arrested four private moneylenders,” said assistant inspector Manoj Abhang, who is probing the case.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Vijay Rantara (36), Balkrishna Kshirsagar (56), Ganesh Salunkhe (50), and Manish Hazra (46). The police have invoked the provisions of the Maharashtra Money Lending Regulation Act, 2014 as well as the IPC provisions relating to the abetment of suicide.

In another case registered on Monday, Vimantal police station officials are probing the alleged suicide of a 25-year-old man. A case of abetment to suicide was registered against unknown agents of an online credit platform.

The deceased has been identified as Sohail Javed Sheikh, a resident of Vimannagar, who was found dead at his house on September 5 at 11 am.
