Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda announced on Saturday that Droupadi Murmu would lead the celebrations at Birsa Munda’s native village in Jharkhand.

For the second Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, Murmu will pay floral tribute to Birsa Munda at Ulihatu, the village where he was born in Jharkhand’s Khunti district.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar will pay tribute to Birsa Munda’s statue in the Parliament complex on the same day.

Munda told the media in New Delhi that several more national- and state-level celebrations would be held. There are also a bunch of events going on at 392 Eklavya Model Residential Schools.

He’ll inaugurate several projects from the Road and Transport and Power ministries and lay the foundation stone for a bunch of Eklavya Schools nearly from Khunti as part of the celebrations. She’s going to speak to women’s self-help groups.

Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary will be celebrated “even in the remotest parts of the country,” Munda said, adding the government will emphasize reaching out to tribal populations in border belts. Youth marches, performances by tribal artists, seminars, workshops, sports, and painting competitions will be held in state capitals.

There’s also been involved from other ministries like the Railways, Culture, and Education.

Munda said Janjatiya Gaurav Divas celebrations aren’t just symbolic; they provide basic amenities, employment, and education to people from tribal communities in remote locations.

It’s on track to finish 740 Eklavya Model Residential Schools by 2026 as residential schools for Adivasi kids.

Janjatiya Gaurav Divas was declared in 2021.
