BJP govt turned investigative agencies into political instruments: Tejashwi

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav.

RJD leader and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav said on Wednesday that the BJP government at the Center has turned investigative agencies into instruments for “political revenge” in the last eight years. He said the RJD has nothing against CBI officials, but it is against using CBI as a political instrument.

“In the last eight years, the central government has made investigative agencies a tool for political vendetta. The people of the country never questioned the honesty and working style of these agencies. Our protest against CBI is no longer against the institution but in their politically motivated manner.”

He said the investigating agencies were trying to appease their “political masters” by raiding the opposition leaders. These agencies never conducted raids on BJP MLAs or MLAs. “That is why we are opposing his political character.

Yadav said several opposition leaders facing corruption charges got clean certificates after joining the BJP. “Some became ministers, some became chief ministers,” he said.

“We were never and never will be against the officers of these agencies. We know they are just following orders. But we are against the use of CBI as a political instrument,” he said in a series of posts on Twitter.

Senior RJD leader and Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Kumar Jha said Yadav has made a distinction between CBI officials and the BJP structure.

“The new institutional character of the CBI is questionable. For example, it was alleged through CBI sources that a mall in Gurugram belongs to Tejashwi Yadav. Now the owners have said that Tejashwi Yadav has nothing to do with it. There should have been some clarification, some statement from the CBI side. I am not saying that he should have apologized. That is why we are saying that the institutional character of CBI is a threat to the idea of democracy and the rule of law.
