Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel says ‘bajrangi gunde’ roaming around in saffron to extort money during Pathaan song row

Amidst the row over Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s new song ‘Besharam Rang’ from the film Pathaan, Bhupesh Baghel, the chief minister of Chhattisgarh, said on Monday that wearing clothes of a certain color is one thing, but to imbibe the religious thought associated with it is another.

Sadhus wear the color saffron as a symbol of sacrifice after they have sacrificed everything, including their families. Currently, these bajrangi gunde (goons) are dressed in saffron clothing. What sacrifices have they made for the benefit of society? Is it their families? Congress leader told reporters that they were wearing the color in order to extort money.

In addition, Baghel poked fun at leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying they are actors as well and have appeared in roles in the saffron hue.

‘Pathan’ starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone is scheduled for release on January 25, 2023. In the wake of the release of its first song, ‘Besharam Rang’, earlier this week, the movie has been surrounded by controversy. Several sections and leaders have critiqued the song, which features the two lead actors, for being ‘provocative’ and ‘hurting Hindu sentiment’.

The upcoming movie has been condemned by right-wing groups in some parts of the country. There have also been protests against the film.
