CM meets governor, asks for clarity on EC opinion

Chief Minister Hemant Soren said Thursday he called Governor Ramesh Bais and asked him if he could clear up the confusion over his continuation as an MLA in an office of profit case.

Bhartiya Janata Party used “atmosphere of uncertainty” to poach MLAs from a democratically elected government, Soren said.

Soren wrote in a letter that he handed over that he was distributing a copy of the Election Commission’s ruling so that the atmosphere of uncertainty could be lifted as soon as possible.

BJP lawyers filed a petition seeking Soren’s disqualification from the Assembly in an office-of-profit case, and the EC sent its decision to the Governor on August 25, causing a political crisis.

Although the EC hasn’t made its decision official, there is buzz that the poll panel recommended disqualifying the chief minister.
