Congress’ 85th plenary session starts in Raipur.

The 85th Congress plenary session started on Friday in Raipur, which is the capital of Chhattisgarh. The main purpose of the meeting was to support the leadership of the party’s national president, Mallikarjun Kharge. The meeting started with a meeting of the steering committee to finish making plans for the next three days.

Around 15,000 Congress delegates are in Raipur for the “Haath se Haath Jodo” Plenary Session. They will meet for three days to discuss ideas and set the tone for the Congress’ national election campaign in 2024.

The 85th plenary sessions started on February 24 and will go on until February 26.

People with knowledge of the situation said that on the first day of the three-day meeting, the steering committee, which is filling in for the Working Committee until a new CWC is formed, will meet at 10 a.m. on Friday and decide if there will be elections for the top decision-making body or not.

People who were mentioned above said that during the three-day session, the party will lay out a plan for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 and talk about making alliances with other parties to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

All eyes are on the results of this year’s plenary sessions, which will set the stage for next year’s General Elections. Here’s a look back at what came out of the last five plenary sessions.

Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, who were both presidents of the party before Mallikarjun Kharge, will also be at the convention.

Held in the wake of the Tehelka leaks and the opposition’s calls for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Atal Behari Vajpayee to step down. Explosive information on the tapes changed the focus, direction, and outcome of the session held in Bangalore’s Palace grounds. The plenary went from giving a vague campaign message for the upcoming assembly elections in four States and one Union Territory to a call to arms for a war against the BJP government in New Delhi, which was led at the time by PM Atal Bihari.

At the 80th sessions in 1997, which were held in Kolkata a week before India’s 50th anniversary of independence, a resolution was passed to make Sonia Gandhi the party president instead of Sitaram Kesri. This happened at a time when the Communist Party of India (Marxist) still had a lot of power in West Bengal and Mamata Banerjee had just told Congress workers at a rally that she was starting the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
