Congress goes to the EC and says that BJP is using “targeted violence.”

On Wednesday, the day before Tripura’s Assembly elections, the Congress went to the Election Commission and said that the ruling BJP was using “targeted violence” and “voter intimidation” to win over voters in the state.

The party asked for more security forces to be sent and for reports of attacks on voters and candidates to be looked into. In a letter to the EC, the Congress said, “For the past few days, we have seen the BJP and its workers create an atmosphere of fear in Tripura by breaking the Model Code of Conduct and intimidating voters by doing things like destroying campaign materials of other parties and threatening and attacking voters who don’t support the BJP.”

The Congress delegation, led by AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik and Congress media department head Pawan Khera, asked the EC to “start a thorough investigation into the reports of repeated attacks on voters and candidates and irregular deployment of security forces in the state.” The party also asked the EC to “ensure special deployment of central security forces in the most important polling stations.”
