Delhi High Court requests the Centre’s response to Zee’s petition against the withdrawal of its uplink permission

Earlier this week, the Delhi High Court asked the Centre for a response in Zee Media’s challenge to a Department of Information and Broadcasting order that stopped Zee from uplinking 10 channels to Ku Band on the GSAT-15 satellite Zee says gave it an edge.

On January 19, a Division Bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad will hear the petition.

In October 2018, the I&B Ministry granted Zee permission to simultaneously uplink 10 channels on Ku band. The ministry, however, revoked its permission on September 23 after noticing that the Zee channels were also available on DD Free Dish, making them effectively free.

As stated in the ministry’s impugned order, Zee channels available on DD Free Dish provided the broadcaster with a competitive advantage over other private broadcasters.
