Different shoes for different folks: Cong leaders on Bharat Jodo Yatra put on walking shoes

Asics and Adidas, everyday shoes, and some even barefoot… Congress leaders and workers hit the road for their ambitious 3,570-km India Pair Yatra, shoes sole – but not only – of concern.
The dress code is white and mostly Congressmen and women are following it. Adding a splash of color to that sea of monochrome is the sheer variety of shoes.
According to party insiders, former party president Rahul Gandhi opted for a pair of sturdy blue-colored Asics shoes, while general secretary Jairam Ramesh went for Adidas. His party colleague Kanhaiya Kumar said he did not need any special shoes and for training Sandesh Sachin Rao, the party’s in-charge walked barefoot on the first day of the yatra.
Rahul Gandhi, along with several party leaders, embarked on the Bharat Jodi Yatra on Thursday, marking the start of a cross-country outreach campaign aimed at reviving his electoral fortunes from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.
Many leaders are wearing several pairs of shoes as they walk into the political debate.
Sources said that Rahul Gandhi is carrying two pairs of shoes to walk an average of 22-23 km in a day.
Ramesh, general secretary in charge of the party’s communications, found Adidas the most comfortable.
“I decided that since I’m going to travel such a long distance, I needed to be comfortable. So I tried five different brands. I found this Adidas pair very comfortable.” When asked about Congress leaders wearing sports shoes for travel, Ramesh said, “I am sure they have invested in footwear.” While many Congress leaders were seen wearing sports shoes keeping in mind the way ahead, others looked unfazed from long distances.
When asked whether he got a new pair of shoes for long distances before the trip, ‘Bharat traveler’ Kanhaiya Kumar said he does not need any special shoes; He hails from Bihar and is always ready to walk long distances.
The ‘Bharat Yatris’ are those who will cover the entire 3,570-kilometer distance. 119 Congressmen and women were seen largely dressed in white attire – kurta-pajama, shirt, T-shirt, saris, and salwar-suit.
