Ex-Andaman top bureaucrat Jitendra Narain is in the hospital after being accused of rape

In Port Blair, Jitendra Narain, former chief secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, was admitted to GB Pant Hospital on Thursday night after complaining about chest discomfort and fever.
A police source said the doctors at GB Pant examined him thoroughly and decided to admit him for a few more checkups. Narain was in jail for raping a 21-year-old woman at Prathrapur District Correctional Center.
Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Siddhartha Roy Chowdhury heard Narain’s bail petition on Thursday.
The Calcutta High Court heard Narain’s and the victim’s lawyers, and the Circuit Bench will hear the matter at Port Blair by December 15.
An investigation team was formed earlier to probe allegations that a 21-year-old woman in Andaman and Nicobar Islands was lured to the chief secretary’s residence by promises of a government job and then raped.
So far, three people have been arrested in connection with this case, including Narain, Rinku alias Sandeep Singh, and suspended labour commissioner Rishishwarlal Rishi.
Rishi and Narain were arrested on November 22 and 10, respectively, while Singh, who had been absconding, was apprehended on November 13.
