Goa Four caught up for raising false alarm, beating up men on distrustfulness of being child lifters

Four persons have been arrested in different parts of Goa in connection with incidents of beating up of some people on suspicion of being child lifters.

Vasco Police Inspector Kapil Nayak said the police on Thursday arrested three accused of instigating a mob to beat up a mentally unstable man who was wandering in an area of ​​Vasco town in South Goa.

He told me the arrest was made two days after a videotape of the incident surfaced on social media.

The police have admitted the victim to the nearest Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behavior here for treatment, the official said.

In a similar incident, a group of people assaulted a man in Betalabhtim village, 10 km from Margao town in South Goa on Thursday, said Philomena Costa, Inspector of Colva police station.

He told a tape recording of a man being thrashed by a mob on distrust of being a child lifter was circulated on social media.

He told the victim had allegedly lost his way and had inaptly walked into someone else’s property.

“The man was working on a fishing giller.
There was a misreading after seeing an unidentified man walking around their homes crying for help to a group of women,” Costa told, adding that no apprehensions have been made in the case.

Another incident took place on Tuesday under the governance of Fatorda police station in South Goa, where a private security guard was arrested for spreading gratuitous fear about a child lifter.

Inspector Girendra Naik told the security guard raised a false alarm and advised the police claiming that a beggar in the area was a child lifter.

The indicted guard allegedly wanted to” shoot a videotape of the police action and upload it on social media”, he told, adding that a case was registered against the beggar under the Begging Act.
