Godavari flood water swells to 19 lakh cusecs in AP, Dowaleswaram barrage crosses 3rd danger level

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will conduct an aerial survey on Friday afternoon to assess the devastation caused by the Godavari floods.
Hundreds of villages along the Godavari, mainly Lanka (island villages) are in the grip of the worst floods as 19.05 lakh cusecs of water is being released into the river till Friday morning.
The flood at Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dovaleswaram near Rajamahendravaram in Andhra Pradesh has crossed the third danger signal.
Special Chief Secretary (Revenue-Disaster Management) G Sai Prasad, who is monitoring the situation from the State Emergency Operation Center here, said 22-23 lakh cusecs of water could be released in the cotton barrage in the next few hours.
When the cotton barrage level reaches 20 lakh cusecs, 554 villages under 42 manuals in six districts will face the impact of floods. Hence, we are accordingly alerting the concerned district authorities on the situation,” Sai Prasad said.

According to the State Disaster Management Authority, 20 manuals in Konaseema district, eight manuals in East Godavari, five in Alluri Sitarama Raju, four in West Godavari, three in Eluru and two in Kakinada districts could feel the impact of floods.
With the Godavari becoming more furious by the hour, the strength of NDRF teams has been increased to eight and SDRFs to 10 to carry out rescue and relief operations.
An Indian Navy helicopter has also been pressed into
service for emergency operations.
Meanwhile, the Krishna river is also continuously flooding and the Srisailam reservoir recorded a flow of 1,46,278 cusecs on Friday morning.
The current storage level here was 56.38 tmc ft, while the entire reservoir level was 215.81 tmc ft, leading to a flood of 159.43 tmc ft.
