In the opening session of the three-day All-India Conference of director generals of police (DGPs) and inspector generals of police (IGPs), which is being held at the National Agricultural Science Complex in Pusa, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that terror incidents, deaths, and terrorist-dominated areas in Jammu and Kashmir have decreased significantly, and the UT is on the path to peace and stability.
On Saturday, according to officials, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the conference of DGs and IGs. He will participate in every major session of the conference.
Shah lauded the work of the J&K Police, paramilitary forces, and intelligence agencies, stating that their efforts are bearing fruit since 1,800,000,000 tourists visited the state in 2017. “In the past, children from Jammu and Kashmir would leave their native country to pursue education. Today, however, 32,000 youngsters from other regions of the country study in J&K, which has increased the trust of the locals and the nation as a whole. “Similarly, the investments made in the last four years have exceeded those made in the previous seven decades,” stated Shah.
The meeting was held in a hybrid format, and approximately 600 officers of various ranks from the states and union territories virtually attended. “In the past, problems were geographical, but today they are thematic, such as cyber and data security.” As a result of the addition of narco-terrorism and fourth-generation warfare, the difficulties have also become complex, he stated.
Shah also lauded the intelligence and security agencies, stating that they have successfully established their preeminence and that no one can disregard the country in any field or prevent anyone from progressing. “We must remember that the entire world has now accepted India’s inability to be restrained.” In a recent analysis, Morgan Stanley predicted that by 2027, our economy will be the third largest in the world. This conclusion is not based solely on the survey but also on our track record. In 2014, our economy ranked eleventh worldwide… “However, between January 2014 and January 2023, we rose from eleventh to fifth place,” he remarked.
Shah, praising the efforts of the security agencies, stated, “Despite many obstacles, we have been largely successful in sustaining the country’s internal security.” Jammu & Kashmir, the Northeast, and places plagued by left-wing extremism were the three hotspots, and under the Prime Minister’s guidance, the situation has dramatically improved. “This demonstrates that we are on the right route and that our objective lies at the conclusion of our journey.”
In the Northeast, according to Shah, nine distinct organizations have surrendered, signed peace treaties, and returned to the mainstream. Over 9,000 rebels have surrendered their firearms to the authorities. “Three boundary conflicts between governments in the region have been addressed, and I am really certain that the remaining four problems will also be settled when we meet again next year,” he said.
“We have achieved tremendous progress in subduing left-wing terrorism.” In 2010, 96 districts were plagued by terrorism; now there are just 46. “In districts afflicted by left-wing extremism, violence decreased by 40–60%,” Shah remarked.
Shah also awarded police medals for exemplary service and trophies to the country’s top three police stations.
