Mayawati slams government for stalling opposition’s protest, SP MLA wants police to be called for ‘privilege violation’

A day after Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s padyatra in the UP assembly was stopped by police, BSP chief Mayawati hit out at the BJP government for not allowing opposition parties to hold protests against its “anti-people policies”.

“Not permitting defiance parties to affirm against the anti-people procedures, autocratic geste and atrociousness of the government have come the new absolute geste of the BJP. Court cases, arresting people and tending to mash dissidence is extremely risky, ”Mayawati talked in a tweet in Hindi.

The BSP chief added, Before stopping the sit-in demonstration against inflation, poverty, unemployment, bad roads, education, health, and law and order, BJP should think about its history that in the past, on every other issue, the road was blocked and the lives of common people were stalled.

Mayawati’s tweet comes amidst Samajwadi Party MLAs sitting on a sit-in in the Assembly alleging that the police force was used to deprive them of their right to participate in the session of the House on Monday.

Terming Monday’s police action as a “violation of privilege of over 100 SP MLAs” by Lucknow Police, the party demanded that the issue be discussed in the Assembly.

The protest, which started during the start of Tuesday’s session, continued even after the House was adjourned for the day.

The minister also alleged that the administration feared that some “anti-social elements” might join the SP’s march and disturb the law and order.

On the government’s apprehension that “anti-social elements” might enter the march, the chief whip of the Samajwadi Party said: “They are MLAs, not anti-social elements”.

Soon, Samajwadi Party MLAs barged into the Well of the House raising slogans of “Tanashahi Nahi Chalegi, Nahi Chalegi”. He continued to sit in the Well of the House even after Speaker Satish Mahana adjourned the House.
