Mohali: Two arrested for illegal sand mining in Teera village

Mullanpur police on Friday said they have arrested two persons for their involvement in illegal sand mining in the area. Police said the arrests were made after a police team tracked down the GPS installed on the truck by the mining department.

Both the arrested men were later released on bail.

According to the information, the mining department had complained to the police that illegal sand mining was being done in Tera village through a GPS mounted on a mining truck.

Harpreet Singh, junior engineer (JE) of the mining department told the police that he received a call about illegal sand mining going on in the area following which a team from his department reached the spot and checked the GPS.

“It was found that illegal sand mining took place on the spot and two criminals were identified. Both the men were asked to show documents regarding permission to carry out mining in the area, which they failed to do,” said the complainant.

Acting on the complaint, Mullanpur police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Mining and Minerals Act against two persons, identified as Manga Singh and Jaswinder Singh, both residents of Tera village.
