“My watchman hadn’t heard the song before,” says Ayushmann Khurrana about Jehda Nasha remake.

An Action Hero, Ayushmann Khurrana’s film, opened in theatres on Friday. Despite this, the filmmakers have been criticized for remaking two songs – Jehda Nasha and Aap Jaisa Koi.

The original creators of Jehda Nasha, Faridkot, have collaborated with An Action Hero, and Ayushmann says they’re happy “now this song will reach the masses”.

Mashable India quoted Ayushmann saying, “I was listening to this song continuously during the pandemic.”. It was the pandemic that pushed independent music. Because you could compose music at home and release it, everyone was home, and a lot of us listened to and consumed music at home. Independent music’s biggest stars owe their success to the pandemic.”

Ayushmann said that Faridkot got mainstream success because of his film: “Talking about Faridkot band, it’s good that they’re collaborators and this song’s on board. It’s going to reach the masses now. It’s already happened, and I know it because the watchman of my building watched the video and told me how good it is. He hadn’t heard it before when I asked him. The song has reached a new audience.” I’m glad it’s reaching people who hadn’t heard it before.”

Tanishk Bagchi, the film’s music composer, earlier said that recreations help “original singers get noticed”. Amar Jalal and IP Singh are the original singers of Jehda Nasha, but the audience doesn’t know their names. My name only exists because I recreated it. Log jaante hi nahi ki kisne gaaya hai wo gaana (People don’t know the names of the original singers).” He added, “I think picturing the song on Ayushmann Khurrana and Nora Fatehi will help the original singers get noticed.” “We’re just a window for these people to come out.”
