NIA conducts searches at multiple locations across the country in two separate Islamic State-related cases

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday conducted searches at 13 locations in six states in a case related to Islamic State’s conspiracy to spread terror in the country.

“NIA searches 13 premises of suspects in 6 states. Bhopal and Raisen districts in Madhya Pradesh; Bharuch, Surat, Navsari and Ahmedabad districts in Gujarat; Araria district in Bihar; Bhatkal and Tumkur city districts in Karnataka; Kolhapur and Nanded districts in Maharashtra; and in a matter relating to ISIS activities in Deoband district of Uttar Pradesh. A case was registered by the NIA on 25.06.2022 under sections 153A and 153B of the IPC and sections 18, 18B, 38, 39 and 40 of the UA (P) Act.

The agency said searches have led to the seizure of “incriminating documents/material”.

The NIA on Sunday also conducted searches in Kerala’s Trivandrum district in a case related to the arrest of one Sathik Bacha alias ICAMA Sathik, who was arrested along with four others in Tamil Nadu in February this year.

According to the NIA, the accused had hatched a conspiracy to intimidate the general public and police officers and also attempted to kill the police personnel on February 21, 2022, during the checking of their Scorpio car.

“The accused persons were also involved in inciting hatred for the secession of a part of India and had intended to disrupt the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India by forming outfits like ‘Khilafah Party of India’, ‘Khilafah Front of India’, ‘Intellectual Students of India (ISI)’ and associating themselves with the proscribed terrorist organizations’ ISIS/Daesh and Al Qaeda,” the NIA said in a statement.

The case was first registered by the Tamil Nadu Police and later taken over by the NIA.

“Digital equipment and incriminating documents have been seized in the searches conducted today,” the NIA statement said.
