BJP leader and former minister of state for finance Jayant Sinha on Monday said there is no ‘manga’ (inflation) and the opposition is looking for it but is unable to find it.
Participating in the debate on price hikes in Lok Sabha, Sinha argued that the government has ensured that the “thali” (thali) of the poor is edible and saved the people from the effects of inflation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Go. and the Ukraine crisis.
Hitting out at opposition parties for doling out freebies, he said, “There are a lot of the ‘ready’ people. In Rajasthan also choorma is being made and ghee is being added to it. We have to be careful of those making choorma, Sandesh, jalebi and those reversals who are destroying the country.” In a swipe at the Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, he said, “Delhi people have got a halwaai who keeps making jalebi and he has taken that to Punjab and now since elections are coming, that ‘Jalebiwala’ is going to Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.” The MP from Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh slammed the Opposition parties, saying they ventured out to look for inflation but did not find it and if they must worry about inflation it is in their states.
Supriya Sule Ji has rightly said that the stomach is not filled with statistics, I go to the panchayats of my constituency and people tell me that ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured that our stomach is full. During the COVID pandemic, the free ration was provided to all the poor and everything was provided to them,” said Sinha, whose father Yashwant Sinha was the joint opposition candidate in the recent presidential elections.
“If you look at the plate of a poor person, and ask him what price you are paying for rice, he will tell you that it is free, pulses are also available at a low cost. The vegetables you were getting for Rs. 10-15 eight years ago, you are still getting at almost the same price and for a maximum of Rs 15-20,” he said.
Sinha claimed that the government’s control over the prices of essential commodities like flour, milk and eggs was unmatched.
“In your (UPA) time this was not possible and hence the plate of the poor is not filled with figures but with food and drink and that is what is filling their stomachs,” he said. It’s a reality, you don’t like it, you’re looking for inflation but you’re not going to find it anywhere, because there’s no inflation. Look through the eyes of the common man, we have filled the ‘thali’ of the common man.”
He listed the schemes of the government providing houses and toilets to the poor to praise the performance of the government.
“We have given the coverage of Rs 5 lakh under Ayushman Bharat, what is the price increase? In saturation mode, we are giving gas cylinders to crores of people. You are looking for inflation, but you are not getting it and you are doing drama in the well.”
“People are not feeling the dearness because of the Prime Minister’s vision that he paid so much attention to and brought Jan Dhan in bank accounts as soon as he came. When COVID came, we deposited money directly into people’s bank accounts,” Sinha said.
He said that the Covid and Ukraine crises were two big “once-a-century shocks” and the PM saved people from inflation and ensured that the recovery is such that India is one of the fastest growing economies.
“We are lower in inflation than the US and Europe. When the US and Europe were just around 2 per cent, during the UPA era, inflation was around 12 per cent. We have controlled inflation and did what the UPA could not do. ”
He said that people always want to see Prime Minister Modi in this position and only one term limit, as was done after US President Franklin Roosevelt won multiple elections, can stop him.
