The Maiden Pharma Company is investigating cough syrup-related deaths in Gambia

Maiden Pharmaceuticals is looking for information from its buyer in the Gambia regarding deaths of children that the World Health Organization believes may have been caused by its products, one of its directors said on Thursday.

“We are investigating the matter because it was brought to our attention only this morning,” Naresh Kumar Goyal told Reuters. “We are trying to find out with the buyer exactly what happened. In India, we do not sell anything.”

According to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, the United Nations is investigating 66 deaths related to acute kidney injuries in collaboration with the Indian Drugs Regulatory Authority.
