Punjab Information and Public Relations Minister Aman Arora said that Sohiyan Bir in Sangrur district would be developed as an eco-tourism center by the state government.
Arora speaking to reporters after holding a detailed meeting with Chief Wildlife Warden Punjab Praveen Kumar, Chief Conservator (Wildlife) Geetanjali, Dr. Habib Bilal, and Dr. Samrat and Divisional Forest Officer Monika Devi Yadav of Wildlife Institute Dehradun, at Sohiyan Bir.
The minister said that this Bir is spread over an area of more than 700 acres, which is bigger than Chhatbir. He said that he would soon take up the matter with the Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, to make this place full of natural beauty and the center of attraction at the national and international level, after which it would be sent to the Central Government.
Arora said that the issue of bringing endangered blackbuck to Sohiyan Bir was also discussed in the meeting. He said that according to wildlife and forest experts, trees that can provide habitat for animals and further enhance the beauty of the place will also be planted in Bir.
Arora said that about two-and-a-half months ago he had visited the place along with Punjab Forest and Wildlife Conservation Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak and since then he has been working continuously with the officials of the Wildlife and Forest Department. The revival of Bir. He said that the preliminary plan to develop Sohiyan Bir as an eco-tourism center has been prepared and the process of improvement would be started soon.
