Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in a bridge collapse in Morbi, a city in Gujarat.
In Sunday evening’s collapse, more than a century-old bridge, which had reopened five days earlier after extensive repairs and renovations, was crammed with people. The accident resulted in the death of more than 130 people.
The Kremlin website published a message from Putin to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing his heartfelt condolences for the tragic bridge collapse in Gujarat. As reported by the state-owned TASS news agency, Putin said his condolences and support to the families and friends of the victims as well as his best wishes to all those injured.
In addition, Prime Minister Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for each of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for each of the injured.
For the kin of the deceased and the injured, the Gujarat government has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh.
