Sambalpur, Odisha, has a curfew because of recent violence.

In response to reports of renewed violence, the district administration of Sambalpur imposed a curfew within the jurisdiction of six police stations in the city on Friday in an effort to maintain law and order. The curfew will remain in effect until further notice.

No person or group is permitted to leave their homes during the curfew period. The sub-collector of Sambalpur, Pravash Chandra Dandasana, issued an official order allowing the purchase of any necessary items between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The administration has also established a medical emergency hotline (7655800760) at the district headquarters facility. It also warned that violators of the curfew would face severe punishment.

While the government permitted the Hanuman Jayanti procession with a large police presence, there were reports of arson, as several businesses were allegedly set on fire by vandals.

Ananya Das, the collector of Sambalpur, stated that immediate action was taken, and force was used to disperse the criminals. “Administration-deployed fire apparatus managed the situation immediately. The Deccan Era informed by Das that “immediately, stringent measures were taken, and a number of arrests were made.”

Das stated that there were no significant untoward incidents during the Hanuman Jayanti Samanyota Samiti procession. A contingent of BJP legislators who had travelled to Sambalpur to assess the situation and discuss the matter with the administration also took part in the procession.

Despite significant police presence in the city, a young man was reportedly killed near Ring Road Mangala Temple in a town in western Odisha; however, the deceased’s identity is unknown. The police have yet to determine the motive for the assassination.

The number of arrests in connection with the violence on April 12 following a Hanuman Jayanti Samanyota Samiti motorbike rally has risen to 32, according to police. During the conflict, at least ten police officers and several others sustained injuries.
