Security at Panjab University is stepped up by the Chandigarh Police

In accordance with the recommendations of the Lyngdoh committee, the campus election campaign must end 42 hours prior to the voting day.

As per the Lyngdoh guidelines, student unions are permitted to campaign on Sunday until 10 a.m.

Afterwards, they are permitted to campaign door-to-door, but they are not permitted to hold rallies. The PU authorities were requested to inform the student leaders of this issue. In addition, we have increased the number of police officers on the PU and UIET campuses. The campus of the university has been surrounded by more than 80 barricades. There were originally 80 police officers on campus, but now there are 150. We also have deployed two dozen officers under the direction of inspectors and sub-inspectors (SI) ranking officers at every college where elections for students are scheduled to be held on the 18th of October” A senior police officer told.

A minimum of 25 police personnel were in attendance on the campus of DAV College, Sector 10 which is believed to be extremely prone to violence. This was followed by Sri Guru Gobind Singh College (SGGSC), Sector 26 as well as Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46. Barricades have been set up outside the gates to these schools. DAV College falls under the supervision of the Sector 3 police station.

Inspector Sukhdeep Singh SHO of the station house (SHO) of Sector 3, the police station stated, “Several security measures have been implemented. We have already suggested the prevention actions against eight students who are troublemakers in violation of Section 107/150 of CrPC.”

Sources reported at least three instances of fights between supporters of various student unions were recorded within the past week within the college.

4 students are held by a toy pistol and sent to court custody

A local court in SDM the day before sent four students who were arrested for bursting firecrackers using a toy pistol on the campus of PU last Friday. The students were taken to judicial detention in the Model Burail jail.

Police reported they found that four students were affiliated with the Hindustan Student Association (HSA) which is a student association that has the majority of students from Haryana.

DSP (central) Gurmukh Singh Sai Ni Said, “The court of SDM was adamant regarding the matter. The four students from outside were taken into Judicial custody. All violence, indecent discipline, or hooliganism is not to be tolerated We have been warning students to not be in any kind of trouble.”
