Senior BSF officer raped constable at border camp

Officials with the Border Security Force (BSF) said on Tuesday that they have suspended an inspector who is accused of raping a constable at a camp near the Bangladesh border in the Nadia district of West Bengal. The camp is near the border with Bangladesh.

The inspector is being looked into by the department, said people who are familiar with the situation.

A senior BSF officer from the South Bengal Frontier headquarters in Kolkata, who asked not to be named, said that the inspector, who was stationed at the Tungi border outpost in the Nadia district, raped the constable on February 19.

The woman told her coworkers about what happened, and they rushed her to a health centre in Nadia and told her she should file a police report.

“We told the woman she should call the police. The inspector is no longer in charge. “This is being looked into by a powerful committee,” the BSF officer in Kolkata said.

The woman was first taken to a health centre in Nadia. On Monday, she was moved to a state-run hospital in Kolkata, where she is said to be in stable condition, according to a police officer.

“Officers at the Bhowanipur police station have written down the victim’s complaint, and she is getting care. “Doctors say that her health is stable,” the police officer said.

The accused BSF inspector has been charged, the police officer said.

At an event in Siliguri, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “I have heard that a woman was raped in a BSF camp in Nadia. I don’t know what they are yet.”
