Supreme Court notice to Centre, Election Commission on PIL seeking to restrain persons indicted of serious crimes from querying choices

The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought answers from the Center and the Election Commission to bar those against whom charges have been framed for severe offences from querying choices.

A bench of judges KM Joseph and Hrishikesh Roy issued notices to the Ministry of Law and Justice, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Election Commission.

The top court was hearing a plea filed by advocate Ashwini Upadhyay on the issue.

Besides barring those against whom charges have been framed in felonious cases, the solicitation, filed through advocate Ashwini Kumar Dubey, directed the Center and the Election Commission of India( ECI) to take way to detain similar campaigners. Demands have also been made, which have been kept in the election — trial for serious offences.
