Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh on alert as a storm brews in the Bay of Bengal

In a bulletin, the India Meteorological Department said a well-marked Low-Pressure Area would turn into a Depression on Tuesday. Once the weather system moves west-northwestward, it’s likely to intensify into a Cyclonic Storm by December 7. Tamil Nadu and Puducherry’s coasts will be hit by December 8, along with south Andhra Pradesh.
According to the IMD, the cyclonic storm will continue to move west-northwestward over the next 48 hours towards Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh.
There’s a chance of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the coming days because of its influence.
A ‘red’ alert was issued on December 8 in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai.
We’re still getting alerts in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, and Salem on December 9.
Ten National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been stationed in Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu and Villupuram as a precaution. There are also relief camps.
