The 2023 Hockey World Cup will be played on four newly laid pitches

The upcoming FIH men’s World Cup will be held at two state-of-the-art venues in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, each of which features four newly laid pitches.

There will be two venues where the World Cup will be played between January 13 and 29. Both the main pitch at the Kalinga Stadium and the practice pitch have been re-laid, while the matches at the Birsa Munda Stadium will take place on brand new pitches that are certified by the International Hockey Federation (FIH).

Hockey India stated in a statement that matches will be held at the new jewel of hockey, the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, as well as at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar, which has been the site of many wonderful moments in hockey’s history.

During the prestigious event, 16 teams from around the world will compete, including the host nation, India. There are 16 participating teams divided into four pools, with India in Pool D along with England, Spain, and Wales. As a result, the top four teams from each pool will proceed directly to the quarterfinals, while the remaining eight teams from the four pools will compete in cross-over matches to qualify for the last eight.

Argentinia, Australia, France, and South Africa form Pool A, while Belgium, Germany, Korea, and Japan form Pool B. In Pool C, there are the Netherlands, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Chile. During the first two weeks of the league, India will play two matches in Bhubaneswar and two in Rourkela. Bhubaneswar will host 24 matches, including cross-overs, quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final, while Rourkela will host 20 matches.

It is an exciting time for hockey fans with only a few weeks to go before the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela. “I am pleased to inform you that all four of the newly laid pitches certified by the FIH are now ready for use,” said HI president Dilip Tirkey.

World-class facilities will be available for both Kalinga Hockey Stadium and Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium. In this regard, we wish to express our gratitude to the Odisha State Government for going the extra mile to ensure this edition of the World Cup will be memorable for everyone.”
