The Egyptian President is likely to be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations
The Indian government has extended an invitation to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to attend the Republic Day celebrations in January 2023 as the chief guest.
A formal invitation was extended to Al-Sisi by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during his official visit to Cairo last month. It would be the first time Egypt’s president has attended the Republic Day celebrations as the chief guest.
As of yet, there has been no confirmation from the Egyptian government that the invitation has been accepted.
It is a highly symbolic honour to be invited to be the chief guest on Republic Day. In order to decide who will be India’s chief guest, the country has been weaving a strategy with hospitality. Each year, the decision is influenced by a number of factors – strategic, diplomatic, business, and geopolitical.
