The Election Commission has announced the date of the Rampur by-election for December 5th

A by-election is scheduled for December 5 in Rampur, as announced by the Election Commission on Thursday.
Earlier today, a sessions court rejected the appeal of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan challenging his conviction in a hate speech case which led to his disqualification from the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
On Friday, the commission will likely issue a notice regarding the matter.
After Azam Khan failed to get a stay on his conviction today, Election Commission announces the Rampur by-poll will go through on December 5. The notification will be issued tomorrow. @IndianExpress

Once the sessions court decides on Khan’s application, the Supreme Court may issue the bypoll notification on or after November 11.
Khan was sentenced to three years in prison in the hate speech case by the MP-MLA court in Rampur on October 27.
