The first flight departs from Itanagar’s Donyi Polo Airport under the direction of Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia flagged off IndiGo’s flight from Itanagar to Mumbai via Kolkata on Monday.

The first flight from Hollongi Airport in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.

From New Delhi, Scindia virtually flagged off the flight. This flight will serve Itanagar to Mumbai via Kolkata. The event was attended virtually, among others, by Law Minister Kiren Rijiju.

According to Principal Adviser RK Singh, the event here marked IndiGo’s 75th domestic destination. On November 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the airport. As the state’s fourth airport, it is one of the busiest.

‘Donyi’ refers to the sun, whereas ‘Polo’ refers to the moon. Over 690 acres of land were developed for over Rs 640 crore to develop Arunachal Pradesh’s first greenfield airport.

Having a runway length of 2,300 metres, the airport is suitable for all weather day operations. The northeast region now has 16 airports.
