The Indian strategic strike submarine INS Arihant successfully launched a ballistic missile on Friday, according to the defence ministry.
According to the statement, it was confirmed that all operational and technological parameters were validated by the missile’s impact on the target area in the Bay of Bengal over a predetermined range.
The successful launch of the SLBM by the Indian Navy Arihant is an important step in proving crew competency and validating the SSBN programme, which is an important component of India’s nuclear deterrence capability.
An assured and robust retaliatory capability is consistent with India’s policy of having ‘credible deterrence,’ which supports its ‘No First Use’ commitment.
