The Mumbai Police warns against posting photos of half-dissolved idols that wash ashore

Mumbai Police Tuesday issued a warning against posting pictures or videos of half-dissolved idols or those that have washed ashore after the immersion process in the sea or lakes that will take place after Navratri on October 5 and 7. Photos like these may hurt religious sentiments, police said.

In an excerpt from Sanjay Latkar’s order (operations), it says, “Durga kills idols are immersed in water on 5/10/2022 and 7/10/22, and some of them drift ashore during high tide or float in lake water, and some people take pictures of them, Videos or photos of such idols lying on the shore or being taken by BMC workers for reimmersion, and publish or circulate them as they may outrage religious feelings.

This action is under Section 144 of the CrPC, and the violators will face fines and further appropriate action as per law, according to the order.
