On Friday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed charges against three LTTE supporters suspected of planning terrorist actions to revive the criminal group in Tamil Nadu.
A spokesperson for the NIA confirmed that a charge sheet had been filed against three arrested individuals from Tamil Nadu – Naveen alias Chakravarthy M, Sanjay Prakash J, and A Kabilar alias Kabilan.
A vehicle check near Puliyampatti division in the Omalur police station area of Salem district in Tamil Nadu on May 19 resulted in the recovery of two country-made pistols, ammunition, and gunpowder, according to the NIA. An official spokesperson stated that the accused “were inspired by the LTTE, a proscribed terrorist organization, and intended to form an organization similar to the LTTE to wage war against the government”.
First registered at the Omalur police station on May 19, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) later re-registered the case.
“Investigations have revealed that the three accused conspired with the LTTE… and created an organization called the World Tamil Justice Court.” In addition to using illegal firearms, lethal weapons and explosive substances and causing property damage, they planned to attack workers at quarries, crushers, and TASMAC liquor shops.
Investigations by the NIA also revealed that the strike was planned for May 18, the Mullivaikkal Remembrance Day, observed annually by Sri Lankan Tamils and supporters of the LTTE as a mark of respect for those who lost their lives during the civil war.
