The Supreme Court has ordered that inmates who were discharged during the Covid-19 pandemic surrender within 15 days.

The Supreme Court issued an order on Friday requiring all convicts and undertrial prisoners who were discharged during the Covid-19 pandemic to report within 15 days.
Undertrial inmates who were released on emergency bail during the epidemic can seek ordinary bail before competent courts after surrendering, according to a bench of Justices MR Shah and CT Ravikumar.
The judgement further stated that all released criminals may petition competent courts for a stay of execution following their surrender.
Many convicts and undertrial prisoners were released during the pandemic, usually for non-heinous offences, in an effort to decongest jails. This action was taken in numerous states based on the recommendations of a high-powered committee formed in response to Supreme Court directives.
