According to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) only has two campuses – Malappuram and Murshidabad – and a “false” promise was made in 2010 about a third campus in Kishanganj.
According to Pradhan in Lok Sabha, an AMU center was promised in 2010 in the Seemanchal region of Bihar, saying Kishanganj would be the location, without doing any research.
As a result of my inquiries (in the Education Ministry), no papers related to the Seemanchal center of the AMU have been located. The proposal was not made. It was a complete lie whoever made the statement in 2010 about the Seemanchal Centre,” he said, prompting a sharp response from Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
According to Chowdhury, Pradhan’s comments were protested because the Congress-led UPA ruled the country at the time.
As an autonomous institution, AMU has only two centers in the country, Malappuram in Kerala and Murshidabad in West Bengal.
According to Pradhan, out of 18,956 sanctioned teaching posts under the purview of the Ministry of Education in 45 central universities, 12,776 are filled, and 6,180 are vacant as of December 1, 2022. Pradhan said in relation to the appointment of faculty members in central universities and other higher education institutions.
He added that the ministry of education had directed all higher education institutions to fill vacancies in a mission-oriented manner.
In the past year, approximately 2,000 professorships, associate professorships, and assistant professorships have been filled.
