TMC moves EC over BJP MLAs’ attire

The ruling TMC on Monday approached the Election Commission with a complaint against the BJP for “violation of rules” in the presidential election. The Trinamool Congress alleged that BJP MLAs tried to “influence votes” by wearing symbolic dhotis and badges while casting their votes. Minister of State Chandrima Bhattacharya said, “[Bengal] BJP MLAs voted to wear ‘Panchi’, a symbol of tribal culture. A similar outfit was also worn by his polling agents.” However, the BJP has denied the allegation. Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said, “Panchi is the traditional dress of Santhali. TMC will not understand the sentiment. They are against the sentiments of the Adivasis.”
