Today, the Election Commission is likely to announce the schedule for the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections

The Election Commission will likely announce elections to the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh legislative assemblies on Friday. The poll body will organise a press conference at 3 p.m. at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
As of February 18, 2023, the term of the Gujarat Assembly will come to an end. There are 111 members of the BJP and 62 members of Congress in the 182-member House. Meanwhile, the term of the Himachal House expires on January 8, 2023. In the House of Representatives, the BJP has 45 members, while the Congress has 20 members.
In September, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey visited Gujarat and Himachal to assess the election preparations. They met with district election officials, senior police officers, and national party representatives in Gujarat.
Upon the announcement of the schedule for the two states, the model code of conduct will take effect. In this document, the poll body has issued guidelines for the conduct of political parties and candidates during elections, particularly regarding speeches, the polling day, polling booths, portfolios, election manifestos, processions, and general conduct.
