Today, the Gujarat Assembly election schedule is likely to be announced by the Election Commission

On Thursday, the Election Commission is expected to announce the schedule for the Gujarat Assembly elections. A press conference has been scheduled for noon in New Delhi by the poll body.
In October, the Election Commission announced that elections to the Himachal Pradesh Assembly would take place on November 12 in a single-phase, followed by the counting of votes on December 8. In that case, the EC refrained from announcing dates for Gujarat, with Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar saying, “We are following past precedent in not announcing dates for Gujarat at this time.”.
As a result of announcing multiple state elections at the same time, the CEC stated that some voters will have to wait longer before results are announced.
This is the third time since 1998 that Gujarat Assembly elections have been announced separately from those in Himachal Pradesh. There were simultaneous elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh in 1998, 2007 and 2012, but separate elections were held in 2002-03 after the Gujarat Assembly was prematurely dissolved following the Godhra riots.
Gujarat’s Model Code of Conduct will take effect after the official notification for the election is published if the election dates are announced today.
On February 18, 2023, the 182-member state Assembly will expire.
