Train coach transformed into the restaurant at Barmer railway station

North Western Railway said in an official statement that a railway-themed restaurant inside the coach of a train at Rajasthan’s Barmer railway station is about to open soon.
The restaurant named VIP Express has been given a heritage look and has been designed in such a way that the customer can feel like eating on the train. According to the statement, both travellers and non-travellers can access the restaurant, which will be the first of its kind in Rajasthan.
The restaurant can seat around 70-75 persons at a time, and also houses various lodges. In addition, the area around the coach has also been developed for the customers wishing to sit outside.
According to Divisional Railway Manager Geetika Pandey, the restaurant is part of the Railways’ plan to increase revenue and employment. He said that the uniqueness of this restaurant would be that anyone can come and enjoy the food, whereas only the passengers or ticket holders can avail of this facility.
Under the scheme, the old coaches, whose operations have been stopped by the Railways, are being used. The restaurant will be operated and maintained by a private firm which will pay the monthly rent to the Railways.
Similar restaurants have been planned for Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bhagwat Ki Kothi and Mahamandir railway stations, Ms. Pandey said.
