UG, PG Cyber Security courses offered by UGC; ‘Cyber Awareness Day’ will be celebrated every month

The University Grants Commission (UGC) launched cyber security and data security programs for undergraduate and postgraduate students as a part of the Cyber Jagriti Diwas 2022 celebrations.

These courses have been introduced to raise greater awareness against cybercrime and ensure that the country’s youth – whether from a technical or non-technical background – develop a basic understanding of cyber security.

“The course aims to create more aware, responsive and responsible digital citizens, thereby effectively contributing to a healthier cyber security posture and ecosystem as a whole,” the UGC said.

Institutions have been permitted to invite qualified faculty, industry experts or subject matter experts in cyber security or computer/IT for imparting knowledge in respect of these courses.

Further, MHA requested all States/UTs to observe ‘Cyber Awareness Day (CJD)’ on the first Wednesday of every month in all Schools, Colleges/Universities/Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Municipalities. UGC has given this instruction to all higher education institutions. HEIs have also been directed to appoint Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) in their institutions to ensure the smooth implementation of the Cyber Crisis Management Plan (CCMP) to counter cyber attacks and cyber terrorism.
