UP court fines Sangeet Som for violating government orders following the Akhlaq lynching

It has been reported that a court in Gautam Buddh Nagar has found controversial BJP leader Sangeet Som guilty of violating government orders after Mohammad Akhlaq was lynched in 2015.

The former BJP MLA was found guilty of violating CrPC Section 144 restrictions at Akhlaq’s Bisahda village under IPC Section 188 (disobedience to orders issued by government officials).

According to news agency PTI, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (2) Pradeep Kumar Kushwaha found him (Som) guilty of violating CrPC Section 144 on Wednesday and fined him Rs 800.

As a result of the Akhlaq incident, the CrPC 144, which prohibits gatherings of four or more people, was imposed in Bisahda village.

Apparently over suspicion that he had stored beef in his house, Akhlaq, 52, a resident of Bisahda village located in Dadri area of Gautam Buddh Nagar, was lynched to death by a mob on September 28, 2015.

Here, a fast-track court is hearing the lynching case, and a judgment is awaiting.

There have been allegations that Som has made inflammatory speeches in the past. A local court cleared him of hate speech charges after a trial following the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots.
